Spray Drying

Spray drying is a technique used to quickly produce small particles of uniform diameter via rapid evaporation. A liquid feed (solution or slurry) is sprayed through an atomizer with drying gas at a controlled temperature, solvent is rapidly evaporated under inert environment resulting in small, uniform particles. The spray drying technique can be applied to neat APIs, amorphous solid dispersions with polymers, and co-crystals.

Properties such as residual solvent, morphology, particle size, water content, and particle density can be fine-tuned in the spray drying process. Solid State Pharma’s closed loop system is compatible with both aqueous and organic solvents.
